The natural aging process, chronic sun exposure, and other environmental factors combine to cause our skin to wrinkle, develop sun spots, discolor, and deteriorate giving us that old weathered, tired look. Sciton® Laser resurfacing can dramatically improve, or even eliminate those effects, and restore our skin to a healthier, more youthful appearance. With the Sciton® JOULE™ laser, Dr. Crabtree can control both the amount of ablation and coagulation, which allows the resurfacing to be deeper or lighter, as well as anything in between.
There are two approaches to laser resurfacing: full field and fractional. In full field resurfacing, the entire surface of the skin is treated. The scanning beam is moved across the surface, removing precisely the preset depth of tissue. The body then heals the surface with a layer of new, younger looking skin. Depending on the depth of the treatment, numbing cream may be fine for some cases, but for deeper cases, other types of anesthesia may be needed. Healing time will vary depending on the depth of treatment. Some redness will be present for several weeks, and most people will need at least 5-7 days before returning to work.
Fractional resurfacing with the Profractional-XC (made popular by the Fraxel® Laser) removes tiny pinpoint columns of skin leaving normal surrounding skin to grow in quickly. The depth and degree of surface treated can be precisely controlled, allowing heating of deeper collagen to not only help tighten the skin, but also improve the surface at the same time. This type of resurfacing not only produces excellent results but it allows individuals to return to their normal activities usually within 48-72 hours.
